Florida Elopement in Sanibel, Florida at Sundial Resort
On the Florida beaches on Sanibel Island, Florida, Allison and Kory started the next chapter of their lives. This destination wedding in Sanibel Island, Florida has quite the story, follow along with Allison and Kory’s story to elope below.
Allison and Kory have a special connection to Sanibel Island – a cute little island off the coast of Fort Myers, Florida. After years of traveling with their family from Des Moines, Iowa to Florida to vacation every year, the couple decided that the Sundial Sanibel Resort was the perfect place for them to say their “I do’s”.
Their original date was moved due to COVID, but that didn’t stop the couple from rescheduling their wedding at their most cherished place in the world. They moved their new date to November, 2020.
As we got closer to their wedding date, we were hearing reports of a possible tropical storm hitting on the very weekend Allison and Kory were supposed to get married. So we made a plan.
Both the couple and I had planned to be in Florida a few days before their elopement and we all wanted them to get the beautiful bridal portraits they deserved and dreamed of, so we decided to do their first look and bridal portraits a couple of days before their wedding day – as soon as I got off the plane.
This was super stressful, but oh so worth it!
I got off the plane at Fort Myers Florida Airport, grabbed my rental car and headed to my condo, changed and went straight to the island, where Allison was getting her hair and makeup – done by her sister – she looked incredible for a last minute change!
Once she was in her dress and ready to go, we headed down to the beach to meet Kory for their first look.
The wind was INSANE. You could definitely feel the storm coming, and we only had 45 minutes of light left for the day, so we were moving fast. But Allison and Kory made the best of it and their photos turned out perfectly!
We all talked about how awesome it was to do all of this before their wedding day – they were able to focus just on the two of them, without anyone else around and take their time to get these fun photos.

Alright, now back to this Florida elopement.
Time for the Couple to Elope.
On the day of Allison and Kory’s wedding day, it was forecasted that the tropical storm was supposed to make another round on the island. It rained off and on for most of the day, but ultimately it held off until later on in the evening. Which was great, because we were able to get all of the photos we needed to get done on time! Unfortunately though the couple didn’t get to say their vows on the beach with their friends and family. They ultimately decided to have the ceremony inside the venue at Sundial Beach Resort and Spa.
The couple danced the night away with their loved ones and had the best day. I wrapped up the night and drove back to my rental condo in Fort Myers – I ended up having to drive right through the storm, it was super sketchy, but I made it!
